2011 Yakima Mavericks Food Drive
Another good time was had by the Mavericks players who were at the 2010 Food Drive for NW Harvest. Players, coaches and staff were out in front of Rosaures from 8am to 5pm all while mother nature dropped 5 inches of snow on the them. But the snow may have helped some because this was the most successful food drive yet for the Mavs. The team raised over $350 and two bins of food for NW Harvest and the local food banks. And the amount of cash is truly amazing since we only raised $86 dollars last year. NW Havest can take that money and turn every dollar into 5lbs of food making that $350 look a whole lot bigger. Thank you to all who donated both food and money to the cause, to Alan Silence of KIMA 29 for coming out and helping get the word out, Dave Thomas at the Yakima Herald for putting us in the paper, and Rosaures for lettign us use their store front.
A big thank you to all players and staff who particapated. Coach Don Fortenberry, Players: Jon Coleman, Felipe Gonzalez, Robert Pedroza, Franklin Jackson, John Lobbestael, Kenny Peterson, Serg Torres, OJ Davis, Jon Devolve, Ian Zero, Jeremy Withrow, Jesse Cardenas, Detrick Trimble, Ryan Chambers, Michael Haggerty, and GM Nathan Soptich.
Every can/box/bag of food and dollar went to NW Harvest who helps supply local food banks. If you would like more info on NW Harvest visit their website at www.northwestharvest.org.
